An expansive project, Gato Malo is a loose group (often large) playing rhythm n' blues + riff-orientated funk-punk-jazz-soul, all on the fly. Shaun Wolf Wortis sets up tunes and (badly) written charts and away they go. The goal is not to have a 'jam' but rather to have the group improvise R.&B. arrangements. Heavily influenced by watching Gil Evan's big band back in the Sweet Basil days, Wortis thought it might be cool to try the same thing but ultimately as a vehicle overwhich to sing.
Definitely not everyone's cup of tea but pretty cool if you like this sort of thing.
